Rihanna Fires Back At 'Man Down' Video Critics, Parent's Television Council, BET

It just disgusts me that adults are finding ways to justify and advocate for the consumption of sexual and violent imagery by children. It's not about Rihanna. It's about all this stuff that's made by adults but pimped to kids. And of course we think its normal because we're older, but who knows how kids are processing adult image after adult image after adult image. Rihanna talking s3x won't make some girl ride the pole, but years of videos and music and comments and natural curiosity might.

And then we want to put all the responsibility on parents like we aren't a society and like we can't stand to wait until after 8pm or 9pm to see things that children really shouldn't. Parents can only do so much without locking their children in their rooms until they are 18.

And underneath it all, its about money. Kids are highly impressionable and so its easy to sell them sex, drugs, and rock and roll. They spend more and they absorb it more. And instead of us as adults siding with a parent group that wants to protect children, some of us here look for more reasons to inflict this adult content onto children.

We're selling our kids out, and then wonder why they are killing themselves and others in schools and not academically competitive. None of these videos, Rihanna's or otherwise, will make kids better people.

Instead of trying to be so cool, can't we adult get real?

Satoshi Kanazawa Causes Firestorm After Claiming Black Women Are Less Attractive

Okay, so let's say that we Black women are more unattractive than other races. Now what? Let's just take it to the natural conclusion that we are somehow less attractive, less worthy, substandard. Now what? So we're less human? We should be treated poorly and people who discriminate against us shouldn't be held accountable? Should we be hung and raped for our existence?

There are so many "Black" women in the world, from various cultures and shades, and socio-economic backgrounds. We are so varied. So at what point is a non-White woman so Black that she fits under his definition of unattractiveness? Is that Beyonce or Sade or Iman or Angela Basett or Nia Long or Halle Berry, or the Gabrielles, Sidhibe and Union? How about Oprah or Alek Wek or Michelle Obama? Where is their ugliness in comparison? What about them isn't good enough for this man?

Go on then. Go on and beat and rape and spit on us. Go on and discount our achievements, denigrate our hopes and dreams, and dismiss our humanity. But don't call it science. It is murder to our bodies, and our souls. This "scientist" is a murderer, no matter how he tries to uplift his anger and justify his prejudices.

Offending isn't his goal. His goal is to kill, and certainly not to heal. And that's the ugliness in him.

Tyler Perry To Spike Lee: 'Go Straight To Hell'

Both men are correct.

My grandmother can't really understand Spike Lee films, but once or twice a year she'll go to the movies to see a Tyler Perry film (Passion of the Christ was an exception). She has a 5th grade education, has almost always lived in the "hood", and is just a simple, God fearing, 80ish year old Black woman.

Every cliche and stereotype has a kernel of truth to it. Perry has taken that kernel and used it to grow millions of dollars. He isn't saving the Black race. He isn't putting our best foot forward. He isn't trying to cater to the Black upper middle class and above. Tyler Perry is trying to make my grandmother laugh for 30 minutes of 2 hours.

Spike Lee is not going to relate to that. Just like Black culture is not monolithic, poverty is not also. The Black experiences of poverty and classism that Perry lived and relates to aren't the same as Lee's. In Spike Lee's early career he often addressed class and race. Tyler Perry focuses on religious and social issues instead.

Spike should have discussed this with Tyler privately instead of allowing his incredulity over the stereotypical imagery to control his mouth. What I loved about the Cosby Show during the 80s, others enjoy today in Meet the Browns and House of Payne.

Maybe one day we won't have to prune the Black experience in mass media in order for Black culture to be socially acceptable.

Gwyneth Paltrow Covers Adele For 'Glee' (LISTEN)

I don't mind Gwyneth Paltrow's version of the song, but the extra kudos that she's receiving because of her pretty decent voice are a double edged sword.

On one hand its a nice surprise that she can sing pretty well. As a Hollywood heir, with her good looks, it was inevitable that she would turn to acting. Her acting is average, and until Glee saved her, she had little of a PUBLIC personality to speak of.

But unless Gwyneth Paltrow plans on putting out an album or having a lounge act somewhere, singing covers is going to get old. Her singing stopped being a one-off lark one film and Glee episode ago. Now each song is an opportunity for unfavorable comparisons with the original singer. And even though I like GP's rendition of this song, Adele always and forever delivers FIRE! You can't touch the depth of her voice. Gwyneth Paltrow's rendition is a polite homage at best, and a watered down version at worst. If Gwyneth Paltrow had been the original singer of this song, it wouldn't be as rich as Adele makes it. Her arrangement of the song copies Adele.

We have no idea what Gwyneth Paltrow's musical sensibilities are. Singing is about more than the tune; its the musical choices that singers make when they deliver the notes. Maybe if Gwyneth Paltrow is strong and brave enough she'll stop covering other singers and commit to putting out an album on her own merits.

LeAnn Rimes vs. Wendy Williams: You're 'Mean' For Calling My Affair 'Sloppy'

LeAnn, you made your skank h*e bed, now sleep in it!

It WAS sloppy. Wendy Williams was right. People want to pretend that just because they give an "explanation" that it excuses their trifling behavior. How about you were a skank, LeAnn, tried to play it off, and it was an epic FAIL?

Wendy was only stating the obvious. We've got a lot of folks out there doing shameful things who figure they can duck and done the actual shame. If you're going to be a cheating skank, then own it and don't turn it into a pity party of one.

Mel Gibson's New RACIST RANT: N-Word Rape Threats

"raped by a pack of [N-words],"

I don't know if I'm insulted more by the word "pack" or the n-word. Pack as in dogs, cigarettes, donuts? Yeesh.

Can't he just go back to the Outback? His career is so over.

Supreme Court Extends Rights Of Gun Owners Across The Country

I'll say the hard thing that folks don't like to say...

THE CONSTITUTION IS 157% WRONG! Or at least it no longer applies the way it once did.

The right to bear arms was instituted back in the day when having a gun to hunt for food, kill local wild animals or your non-White neighbor, or be an inspiration for future spaghetti westerns in the Wild West. Guns were carried around like cell phones.

We do not live in those times anymore. We are supposedly more civilized. If you live in the country or hunt the woods, yes, I get it. But a gun on the subway when you aren't a cop tells me that...

1. you are crazy

2. you are arriving early for a race war

3. you might be into some illegal crap

4. your have a small peen

SUGGESTION: Laser Taser Tag. Can somebody come up with a laser that will taser without the pesky coil. No killing, just a long range taser.

This is all very depressing. God I can't wait for Star Trek to be real!

Supreme Court Extends Rights Of Gun Owners Across The Country

This country is too dumb and too dangerous for more of this crazy crap!

How about the rights of the rest of us to live without fear?! Why more guns for protection instead of restricting for protection? Exactly how wonderful is this right to bear arms? Is it orgasmic? Heck, why are you carrying a gun when you aren't a cop or trying to shoot some overly aggressive squirrel?! Exactly what business do you have with a KILLING MACHINE in your hands?!

Logic: People who need guns for protection live in bad neighborhoods. People who like to shoot in bad neighborhoods don't legally buy guns!

Please, just legalize all drugs and selling sex and get it all out there. If people have the right to walk around with guns then they should at least be able to take drugs and buy sex to calm down whatever aggression they clearly need to work off!

Rich people and political leaders don't give a d@mn because the aren't eating dinner one minute and getting shot by stray bullets the next minute. Sad to say but it'll take soccer moms shooting at each other over party planning for the law to recognize!

This is yet another reason for any American who works hard, pays their taxes, and tries to be a good human being TO LEAVE THIS COUNTRY!

Rand Paul Remarks Lead Kentucky Legislature To Pass Civil Rights Legislation

So this will be politically incorrect for me to say, but I agree that restaurants shouldn't serve anyone, including Black people, if the owners don't want to. I'd like to know that I'm avoiding getting spit (or worse) mixed in with my food because the folks behind the counter hate me for my racial freedom. :D

Maybe they can put up a sign: "Non-Whites, we will serve you, but we don't want to."

That way, they aren't breaking any rules, but Brown people like myself know not to walk into that restaurant. Win-win!

Bristol Palin's Harper's Bazaar Spread: Sarah's Daughter Models Designer Gowns In Tea Party-Themed Shoot (PHOTOS)

Bristol and her child are way too cute for that mess of a set. It looks cheap as all get out. Kind of like a professional photographer tried to find the best angle to shoot inside a double wide trailer. The only thing that looks half way decent are the cakes. The decor is dingy and her dress looks like something from the 80s.

UPDATE: Some said on one of the blogs that this is her crib. Hmmm.

Elena Kagan Embraces Dowdy, Doesn't Cross Her Legs, Says Robin Givhan

This Givhan woman has set women back like 2 years and 6 months with this article! I understand that all Robin Givhan is qualified to do is talk about the clothing of the people who make history, but she seems to give too much importance to legs crossing and not enough consideration to the fact that this woman wisely spent more time filling her brain and not her wardrobe.

Clearly for Givhan the most interesting about Kagan is ultimately her possible homosexuality. But then this style bully is a woman who called Michelle Obama common for wearing shorts during a beach vacation. We must remember how small minded some people can be with their threadbare sensibilities.

Arizona Ethnic Studies Law Signed By Governor Brewer, Condemned By UN Human Rights Experts

Man, its hard to live with your own history. You can't very well make slavery and opression sound good.

But one of the major things I taught in my university African American studies course was how to have an objective, well rounded view of history. Not just what regular schools didn't teach, but aso not to demonize or stereotype a race of people based on the actions of some, even if ultimately they were governmentally sanctioned.

If somebody Brown hates somebody White in Arizona now, best believe its for something they are doing today, not 100 years ago.

Gabourey Sidibe 'Mean' To Reporters, Fans

I've seen Jonathan on television a couple of times and he strikes me as overly sensitive and slightly pandering. In this case I think he's FOS.

So basically b/c chick doesn't fit everyone's physical standards of whatever being a celeb is, folks are counting down her 15 minutes? We've got the Kim Kardashians, moms having upteenth kids, and all these reality show rejects and this is the chick who you're doing the count down on?!

Also, we all due respect, folks either want Gabby to be the "mean Black b*tch" or "jolly fat girl." How about she was having a great conversation and somebody interrupts her to kiss her @ss and she's just REAL enough to help his sorry @ss stop interrupting?!

Gabby strikes me as the impatient, snarky, sharp witted type of chick. A celeb who is trying to garner favor will pucker lips to kiss all kinds of @ss. Gabby isn't doing that and so she gets the "mean" label.

Good for you Gabby. Next step, the b*tch label!!!

Erotica Gives Book Publishers A Boost: Once-Fringe Genre Now Booming

Hey, ghetto lit is making publishers sick money too! I remember when you couldn't read about a round the way lollipop-sucking Black woman willing to dream and scheme her way up the hood social ladder.

Years ago a friend of mine wanted to write a "street book" as we called it, but she got sidetracked by life. She kicks herself for not being the first.

If erotic is the surprise hit, then ghetto lit is just around the corner. And there's also ghetto erotica (see Zane, et al) that is making enough money to take up major shelf space in Walmart.
